Building an at home gym is the best way to ensure that your fitness goals are kept and met. You want to be sure that the equipment you have will be put to use and not just collecting dust in the corner. That's why I'm here today discussing this topic so I can help my fellow fitness ladies and gentlemen achieve their highest workout potential! With all the obstacles life has to offer lets face it, you will miss the gym every once in a while, this is when your home gym comes in handy. I have compiled a list of fitness items that are a MUST HAVE in your home. Not only are they effective, they are also affordable. Money plays a big role in living a healthy lifestyle, it can be pretty pricey, but if you do your research you can easily save big bucks!!!
1. Jump/Speed Rope
Jump/Speed ropes are a great way to get in some cardio without having to jog for countless minutes on a treadmill or fighting the elements outside on your evening run. This budget friendly rope will cost you no more than $10 bucks on amazon! It is even said that jumping rope for 10 minutes per day for six weeks has the same cardiovascular benefits of a daily 30 minute jog. Just be sure to grab a good pair of shoes to absorb the shock from jumping and you're good to go!
2. Kettle-bell
Kettle-bells are like the unicorns of workout equipment, because you can benefit from them in so many ways. They help burn fat, tone, improve balance and agility, while also building your endurance. Not only will it improve you all around, it won't break the bank either, this kettle-bell is under $20 dollars and its 20 lbs. which means you're getting more bang for your buck!
3. Yoga Mat
I personally use my yoga mat for EVERYTHING! I stretch on it, workout on it, nap on it, etc. I have probably only used it for it's real purpose twice in it's life. I'm not much of a yogi but I would love to be one day. It's durable, which means it is tear resistant, non-slip and is 1/2" thick for comfort and cushion, and easy to clean. This particular mat comes with knee pad, as well as a free strap to make for easier carrying. You basically get three products for the price of one, all for $17.99 on amazon.
4. Resistance Bands
When you hear resistance bands you automatically think lower body or glute workouts. These versatile bands can be used in many different ways and there are many different variations of resistant bands (pictured). You can do a complete bicep/tricep, and upper/lower back workout with these bands as well. Just as much as they are versatile they are affordable, the bands alone are under $10 dollars and the bands with the hand grips are $15.98 on amazon.
5. Exercise Ball
Just like it's counter parts above, the exercise ball has many benefits. Say for instance you work a 9-5 and you sit all day long in an uncomfortable chair, instead of killing your posture opt out for one of these as your desk chair, they help relieve back pain and improve posture. You can also use it for strengthening your core, improve balance, strength training, and stretching. You can reap all of these benefits for the low cost of $16.99 and it comes with a pump for easy inflation!
6. Ab Roller
The ab wheel or ab roller is a great tool to have if you're wanting killer abs. With this piece of equipment you can target different areas of the abdominal muscles as well as your shoulders, lats, and glutes. It helps with core stabilization and improving spinal health and rid lower back pain if done correctly. This gem can be purchased for no more than $15 dollars, so you can have killer abs and not kill your wallet!
7. Dumbbells
Dumbbells are the holy grail of the fitness world, they are universal and can be used in any workout you can imagine. They can be implemented in HIIT workouts, body weight workouts for added intensity, core training, and kick boxing to name a few. I would recommend 8-15 lbs dumbbells, but feel free to get a weight that is most comfortable for you. Depending on the weight the price may vary but these do come as a pair as opposed to receiving one single dumbbell.
8. Medicine Ball
A medicine ball is another versatile piece of workout equipment that will help capitalize your workout journey/experience. If your looking to get a great full body workout in, look no further, doing medicine ball throw downs will give you the burn you are looking for all over! This item comes in at a little over $20 but you will not regret this purchase! Just like the dumbbells be sure to get a weight that is most comfortable for you.
9. Aerobic Step
If you haven't heard by now I'm here to let you know that the aerobic step is the new kid on the block! There has been a wave of new fitness content showing up on social media featuring this oldie but goodie! Step fitness is the new cardio you never knew you needed. Throw on your workout playlist and make up a routine of your own or follow along with your favorite YouTube video, my favorite video is Xtreme Hip Hop with Phil check it out!
10. Ankle Weights
Last but not least ankle weights are great to have in your stash as well. Not only do they add weight and resistance to whatever exercise you are doing, they also improve your endurance. Another plus is that they also aid in increasing the number of calories you burn with the added weight. No matter the level of fitness these will work great for everyone! Depending on the weight the price may vary but you still won't spend over $20 bucks with this item!
